As the largest physical retailer of luxury timepieces in the United Kingdom, Watches of Switzerland has held an enviable perch to witness the growth and expansion of the Bremont brand across the world. And just as Bremont continues to expand its market share, as does Watches of Switzerland, which recently made its first foray into the U.S. arena with two full-scale boutiques in New York City and Las Vegas (see our previous coverage of the Watches of Switzerland boutique here).
To commemorate the opening of the Lower Manhattan boutique, Bremont has partnered with the retailer once again to release a limited edition take on the ALT1-ZT/51 GMT Chronograph, a combination of complications first seen in the brand’s catalog in 2016. The new ALT1-ZT/51 features the same layout and overall appearance of its progenitor, but adds an attractive dark blue dial to enhance the model’s overall vintage appeal. Its further complemented by the indexes and hands that are filled with a cream-colored Super-LumiNova material and a brown leather strap (or a stainless-steel bracelet, if desired). The 43-mm automatic chronograph comes in a hardened stainless-steel case that claims to be seven times stronger than average steel. It’s water resistant to 100 meters
The ALT1-ZT/51 GMT Chronograph is the direct descendant of one of Bremont’s most memorable watches, the P-51 Limited Edition that utilized pieces of the famous 1944 Mustang WWII aircraft P-51K-10, one of the sleekest combat jets in existence, in its construction. The original ALT1-ZT/51 GMT Chronograph used the same design language established by the P-51, but made it a bit more traditional in function and straightforward in appearance with minutes, hours, and small seconds laid out at the 6, 9, and 12 markers. Two elongated seconds hands, one lollipop style for the counting seconds, the other a triangular arrow for the GMT functionality, stretch out across the dial to the base of the interior rotating bezel. This has all been carried over into the new limited edition model. One small difference that we did notice between the 2016 iteration and the new limited edition, however, is that the small seconds at 9 o’clock has gone through a slight redesign to stand out on the blue background. Where before the running seconds was indicated on a printed register that laid flat against the dial compared to the slightly recessed apertures with snailed detailing for the hours and seconds counters, the Watches of Switzerland model has a matching recessed small seconds and a red indicator hand.
A quick flip of the watch offers a view of the modified 13 ¼”’ BE-54AE Caliber through the integrated flat-crystal caseback. It offers a 42-hour power reserve and features a high degree of finishing and a skeletonized rotor that has been engraved with “New York.”
Bremont and Watches of Switzerland have held a successful relationship since 2007. Recently, the retailer doubled its distribution for the brand on top of an impressive retail sales growth of close to 80 percent last year.
In a release sent to the press, Bremont Co-Founder Nick English said, “We’re delighted to be launching this unique timepiece in partnership with Watches of Switzerland. The USA is our second biggest market and is rapidly growing for the brand, so to be able to expand our footprint throughout New York is key. The new boutique’s location and design are very impressive and we’re proud to be the only British luxury watch brand available.”
Limited to only 30 pieces, the ALT1-ZT/51 Limited Edition for Watches of Switzerland is exclusively available in the New York City boutique and online for $6,025.
