Corum Admiral Bronze Editions Pay Tribute to Historic Sailing Ships

Corum’s modern Admiral collection evolved from the iconic Admiral’s Cup yachting watch of the 1960s and its various models continue to channel the distinctly nautical character that made it a cult hit. This year, Corum takes the maritime theme to a new level, introducing two new models of its Admiral Automatic 42 in cases made of bronze, a material used extensively in old sailing vessels.

Both watches use bronze for their 12-sided case, measuring 42 mm in diameter and 10 mm thick; the dodecagonal design dates to the Admiral’s Cup models launched in 1983 and has been streamlined to offer a more modest and slender alternative to other, larger Admiral models, some measuring up to 48 mm. The 12 sides correspond to the distinctive hour markers whose shapes are inspired by nautical pennants. Each numeral represented on these markers conforms to its equivalent in the International Code of Signals used in sea navigation. The fully satin-brushed bronze cases (including the bezel and crown) will acquire a unique patina over time, ensuring each owner’s watch has a subtly unique look after a period of wear.

The dials are available in navy blue and dark maritime green, two of the most popular colorways of recent years in the watch world. The dial hosts a pair of skeletonized, faceted, Dauphine-style hour and minute hands, gold-plated and filled with either blue or green Super-LumiNova. The date appears in a small window adjacent to the 3 o’clock pennant, and the running seconds are displayed on a subdial above 6 o’clock. Inside the case is the automatic Corum Caliber CO 395, most likely ETA-based, beating at 28,800 vph, amassing a 42-hour power reserve, and on display behind a screw-down sapphire window in the caseback, which on both models is made of brown PVD-coated steel.

Both new Admiral Automatics are mounted on alligator leather straps in colors that match those of their dials, which fasten to the wearer’s wrist with a triple folding buckle in brown PVD-coated steel. Prices for the models have yet to be announced.
