Two months ago E.C.Andersson Watch Co. released the Denise, the company’s first professional diver and heavy-duty tool-watch. Although there is still some time before delivery, the watch has almost sold out, which makes the Denise Calypso-Blue a welcome addition to the series.
Named after the submarine that was carried aboard Jacques Cousteau’s oceanographic research vessel, Calypso, the Denise Calypso-Blue shares attributes to both historical objects and previous E.C.Andersson models with its lively gradient-blue dial, bohuslän hands, and utilitarian aesthetic.
Designed with the intention of being worn year-round, the Denise is as functional while diving in the ocean during the summer as it is during a winter hike through the Alps. Rated to 200-meter water resistance, the ceramic bezel can also be utilized as a reliable compass.
The case is a continuation of E.C.Andersson’s Calypso design, sturdy but sophisticated, with broad shoulders and clear-cut bevels swirling around the watch from lug-to-lug. The Denise is thinner than the Calypso by 2 mm while remaining 40 mm in diameter. It is 14 mm in height and features finely applied angles to achieve a sleek look, suitable for wear during all occasions. The gap between strap and case is covered, making any 20 mm accessory integrated to the watch.
The Denise’s rubber bracelet is designed to take a beating while being comfortable to wear. With the new dive buckle, you can adjust the length of the bracelet an extra 8.5mm without removing the watch from your wrist, made to quickly expand the bracelet when wearing the Denise over a wet-suit or a ski-jacket. The lugs are drilled to fit single-shoulder spring bars, securing the bracelet from being accidentally torn off the case.
As always with E.C.Andersson Watch Co., the Denise Calypso-Blue is limited to 95 pieces and the collection marks the last to be released through pre-order before the company moves on to stocked pieces at their listing price. E.C.Andersson Watch Co. offers a discount starting at 995 EUR and, of course, VAT free outside the EU.
